About MONOMYTH:
MONOMYTH is an immersive dungeon crawler released into early access on Oct 3rd, 2024, both developed and published by Rat Tower. MONOMYTH was inspired by the genre’s late classics such as FromSoftware’s 1994 action role-playing game, King’s Field. This game puts the player in the shoes of an adveturing prince searching for his brother after his father sent an expidition to the fallen fortress city called Lysandira, which was spearheaded by his brother. Waking up, the player finds himself in a prison, stripped of his weapons and armor. Another prisoner across the hall informs him that Wastelanders knocked him out and locked him in the cell, but there’s a secret door in his cell and a hidden button to open said door. Once the player escapes, he is forced to discover the secrets of Lysandria if he is to find his brother.
Review:
MONOMYTH is an excellent and immersive dungeon crawler, filled with action and mystery. Even though its in early access, Rat Tower has done an excellent job polishing the content that is currently avaliable. With a large variaty of weapons and magic avaliable almost anyone can find a playstyle they’ll enjoy. However, like its predecesors, MONOMYTH does very little to guide the player beyond dialogue and the journal. Though, this has been improved apon with the latest beta update. Combat feels weighty and slow without feeling clunky and awkward. Inventory management is difficult without being frustrating. As the game stands in its current state, it is an excellent starting point for Rat Tower to build upon and tell their story. Being in early access, I can only hope that content updates come quickly but even in its current state, I can wholeheartedly recommend the game as each update improves upon the game and refines whats already there.
